CORRECTION!!! The Ablative Armor FOUND on the Sideshow Hall of Armor print by Chris Skinner
I hate misinformation.
There are tiers of misinformation, of course. Some is worse than others. There are the lies and half-truths that are currently destroying American democracy. There are the corrections a website makes but doesn’t draw attention to, hoping no one will notice.
Then there are the simple mistakes people make that they just don’t want to own up to. Most people seem allergic to admitting that they were wrong in any way, hoping their mistakes will slide into the past and that no one will ever call them out on them. Our ego just doesn’t want to let us appear weak in any way.
I’ve mentioned time and again how I’m aware of how silly this site is, that it’s not really important beyond simply being a creative outlet for me. But I also don’t want it to release any misinformation out into the world, no matter how small or insignificant.
Months ago I wrote a couple of blogs about the Ablative Armor being left out of the Sideshow Hall of Armor Print by Chris Skinner. I was wrong…and I’ve very glad I was!
First off, take a look at that beautiful glow-in-the-dark piece that was available for about 24 hours on Sideshow last March before it sold out. Again, my hat is off to Chris Skinner for the look of it. Of course, me being me and this site being this site, I went looking for the Iron Man Ablative Armor and had no luck. I emailed Mr. Skinner asking why he failed to include it and got no response. Then I wrote a blog about the Ablative being snubbed, ‘cause that’s what I do.
When I received my print three months later, I decided to verify that Axol wasn’t there. And when I did, I wrote a blog “confirming” that the Ablative was missing.
Then it happened. Out of the darkness of the misinformation I was spewing came an email from a random person named Lake. So let me just start by saying, “Lake, thank you for being a bearer of truth on this particular subject.” Lake informed me that I was wrong, and I am here to admit it and present the truth.
There’s Axol. Fourth row from the bottom, dead center. That face! The gold love-handles! That questionable Iron Man codpiece! There’s no doubt that’s Axol. It even has the mysterious lines on the upper legs that I’ve called out before.
So, how did I miss my favorite armor? I wonder if I subconsciously decided to ignore it. Throughout the site, I’ve painted Axol as a forgotten armor, an underdog that never shows up and never gets included. I think I was determined to not see it.
So, my apologies to Chris Skinner. You included Axol, and you even put him in a logical place between the Plastic Ghost (Model 21) and the Pentagon Armor (Model 24). I’ve also just noticed your artistic choice to stack four models right up the middle that all have the gold-up-to-the-hips color pattern, creating a nice line that leads the eye upward. Yet another reason I should have been able to pick Axol out of the lineup.
Also, my thanks to Lake, who helped me get a little bit more truth out in the world. I have returned to my previous blogs and put corrections at the beginning of each. I would erase them completely, but I like to show that I’m not above admitting when I’m wrong. You can find them at the links above.
