Iron Man’s Weirdest Armor Ever

What is Iron Man’s Ablative Armor?

Iron Man’s Ablative Armor (Model 23) is a deep-space prototype armor designed for exploring celestial bodies such as comet tails and asteroids. This suit features polymer tiles that break away when hit, reducing the impact energy transferred to the wearer. If a tile is broken or discarded, an underlying tile will pop up to take its place. A kiln on the back creates new tiles and replaces them with the help of the suit’s forcefield. This unique armor, created by Robin Laws and Robert Teranishi, first appeared in 2003’s Iron Man #416 (vol. 3, #71).

Never heard of Axol?

This armor has only been in three Marvel Comic issues…ever.

And I’m kind of obsessed with it. I named it Axol because it regrows its skin, just like the axolotl. This site is about educating people about one of the most unique Iron Man armors in the Marvel canon.

I’m also here because I want to show you some really cool art, commissions, and customs of Axol. Enjoy!
